Information about the job:
• To prepare business requirements specifications for approval by the
head of department on aspects of new development in appropriate areas of expertise
• To evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of proposed changes
to current systems in appropriate areas of expertise
• To prepare software testing procedures required to ensure that any
allocated program or system testing is properly performed and that the results
can be clearly assessed and passed back to those responsible for the correction
of any errors found
• To test programs or systems as and when required, and report errors
and faults back to those responsible for correction. Follow through by re-testing
corrections to ensure good quality control
• To advise colleagues, when appropriate, in the remedial action needed
to resolve system errors and deficiencies, documenting any changes recommended
• To document areas of detail as and when required for the preparation
of relevant procedural manuals
• To train colleagues in the operation of developed software, as and
when required, to ensure a smooth hand over of projects to the support and
consultancy functions
• To assist in the installation of newly developed software on clients
systems
• To assist the support function on current or previously developed
software, as and when required, by taking support calls from clients when
appropriate
• To resolve, or assist in the resolution, of problems arising from
the live operation of current or previously developed software
• To attend project meetings when required, internally or with clients,
to gain knowledge or impart advice on current development projects and to
document details when appropriate
• To give presentations of newly developed software to clients as and
when required
• To cover for colleagues, as and when required, in all areas where
knowledge overlaps
Information about the person:
• Must have knowledge, ordinarily acquired from a Bachelors degree,
in a relevant subject plus several years experience in a related field or
an equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Requires in-depth knowledge and understanding of at least one area
of expertise such as Trading or Financial systems, and a professional qualification
would be preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups of individuals
and able to maintain effective work relationships
• Demonstrable ability to organise and present complex specifications
and ideas clearly and accurately, and expertise in identifying, defining and
resolving system problems.
• Familiarity with micro/minicomputer concepts and systems (UNIX, windows
9X, windows NT/2000 and applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft project
ETC)
• Detailed knowledge of a wide variety of Kerridge systems, environment
tools and procedures
• Able to work under pressure with limited time, direction and guidance
to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner
